What Is Dual Sizing? How to Choose Your Size

Zip Pocket ballerina length dress in plum ponte Roma jersey by Katya Wildman

Some of my dresses, including the bestselling Zip Pocket, come in dual sizes such as 10/12 or 14/16. Customers often ask what this means and how to choose, so here's a simple guide.

What is dual sizing?

Dual sizing means one size is designed to fit two neighbouring UK sizes. For my Zip Pocket dresses, the sizes are:

  • Size 0 = UK 6/8
  • Size 1 = UK 10/12
  • Size 2 = UK 14/16
  • Size 3 = UK 18/20
  • Size 4 = UK 22/24

Not every colour comes in every size, so check the product page.

How can one size fit two sizes?

It's all in the design. Dual-sized dresses have adjustable features that let you tailor the fit. On the Zip Pocket Dress, the front zip lets you choose your neckline, and the tie sash cinches the waist exactly where you want it. Fabrics with a little stretch, like Italian stretch cotton and ponte Roma jersey, also help.

Which size should I choose if I'm in between?

If you're a 12 on top and a 14 on the bottom, think about where you want the most room. As a general rule, choose the size that fits your bust and shoulders, because the sash can always be tied tighter at the waist. If in doubt, get in touch and I'll happily advise.

Is dual sizing good if I'm losing weight?

Yes, it's ideal. If you're losing weight, perhaps with GLP-1 medication like Mounjaro or Wegovy, or your weight fluctuates through the menopause, a dual-sized dress will keep fitting for longer. I've written a full guide to buying an occasion dress when your weight is changing.

Are your other dresses single-sized?

Yes. Dresses like Grace, Suzannah, Stevie and Confident come in standard UK sizes from 8 to 24 (varying by style). Each product page has a size guide.
